After critiquing my peers work, I realized that nearly everyone else did an interview. I chose to change my project entirely to reflect an interview style. I chose to interview myself about my own college assistance program, called YES. The interview follows the style of a radio interview, just as my previous topic did. It is not a comedy however, as the other one was a comedic version of a public service announcement. I chose YES because it is something I am currently working on, and also a group I hope to expand. By creating this short interview, I wanted to be able to inform, persuade, and encourage any listeners about the goals and ideas I have with YES.
The design process was to give a summary of YES, while leaving out enough information that would lead listeners to follow up upon hearing the interview. To do this, I ended the interview with information to contact YES at the website. I think by giving that type of ending, it really gave the interview the same kind of flow and vibe that a real interview featured on a radio broadcast would have.
As for technical details – I did not want it to sound like I was talking to myself, so I added a few distractions and edited the vocals. First, I changed all the questions to have an automatic vocal correction to “male,” and I also edited the reverb just a hair. I also reduced the noise throughout the entire length of the audio interview. Furthermore, I did the opposite to the answers by changing the pitch to “female,” and stretched out the vocals that made it sound like I was speaking a little too quickly.
To make the interview more “inspirational” sounding, I added a song called ‘Fireworks’ by Katy Perry. This song has a tone of encouragement and perseverance, and that aligns with the mission of YES, as well as made the interview a lot less boring sounding. I do NOT own the song, lyrics, etc. and all credit goes to Katy Perry and Capitol Records!
I hope with this audio story I have shown my editing skills (this began at eight minutes, thirty-seven seconds long, edited down to be under three minutes). I know my editing skills needed work, so hopefully my practice is reflected in the final copy. I also hope to have demonstrated my interviewing skills and perhaps add this to my portfolio to show in the future when seeking employment in the communication field.
