My write up:

The topic of my video project will be a chronicle of an up and coming hip hop artist from the Seattle area. Jevy is a Seattle native and a Washington State University Alumni. After graduating in 2006 with a degree in Theatre Arts, he moved to San Diego to pursue a hip hop career. During the day, he works with multiculteral students at the University of San Diego, encouraging them to pursue their educational goals. By night, he works with other Coug alumni such as Chris Hill and Joe Stubblefield, with whom he founded “Take Off Entertainment Group.” Jevy himself is an experiment of the group, made up entirely of Washington State University alumni.

My goal within the video is to demonstrate the human side of performers, as well as my love for the performing arts. By day, Jevy is a “normal” guy, by all means. He has a wife, a full time job, and hip hop is his true passion. He is a true mentor to students everywhere on how education can truly help you reach your goals, no matter how much that may not seem true. Jevy, as an artist, was not created until after a marketing and business plan was created for Take Off Entertainment Group, and then Jevy came to be known.

By taping almost every moment leading up to Jevy’s performance, I hope to create a piece of quality video journalism that is reminiscent of popular TV shows such as True Life on MTV or recent musical documentaries that have released by popular artists such as Katy Perry or Justin Bieber.

I plan on executing this by using a LOT of editing. The downside of this style of movie is that it does require absolute candidness on behalf of the people being filmed. The scenes should feel natural, not forced or coerced. I plan on finding the best moments that truly sum up the Jevy experience, and using them wisely. I made a goal of three minutes for several reason. Firstly, it is a comparable time to ask of someone to watch a video. I find myself most often losing interest in a YouTube video when the video length exceeds three minutes. If a message cannot be shared in three minutes or less, I feel it is too broad and not structured. The short length will force me to get the best points across without compromising anything from the experience that I hope to share with Jevy’s fans.

Hi! I really enjoyed your video, I thought it was extremely interesting and unique. The photos you chose and the video footage itself definitely had an artistic feel to them. I am also a huge fan of black and white pictures and films so that added a few more points in by book as well 🙂 I really like your overall focus of the video, it tells us alot about you and your interests through someone else and I think that is really impressive, well done!! A few suggestions might be to try and make the pictures and videos a little bigger so the fit the frame slightly better, Also maybe adding intro and ending titles so that we as the audience get a little bit of what to expect or take from it. Other than that I think this is an awesome start!!! Great job

I really enjoyed your video. i thought it was done very well. i especially enjoyed the beginning with the various pictures. It was a great lead into the rest of the video and did a great job of setting the stage without actually having to use any text. Another nice touch was doing the entire video in black and white, i think it gave the video a good tone and made it flow nicely. The video clips however need some work. For one they dont seem very coherent and its hard to tell if the video is and the audio are meshing well or not. the angles of the video clips are also on the down side because its hard to get a good look at whats going on from the side view. I think if you are able to get better video clips from other angles and mix them in with the side view then it will make the whole video flow better.

I thought your video was really unique. I think you chose to use great footage, and I like the lyrics of the song. I feel that the video was really artistic. I like the touch of black and white video footage, it doesn’t work for every video but it definitely did with yours. I think for your final video you could try to make the footage and photos a little larger in order to take up all of the available space. This would make the footage much easier to watch. I think adding an intro and outro may be a cool touch to add, and maybe some background info of the artist. Your video has great potential, keep up the good work.

Your video is very cool. I think the topic you went for is something different that other people aren’t and I love the Coug pride in yours. One thing that really stood out to me was the picture at the beginning. These were really cool because it not only went with the beat it told a story before you even played any of the footage. The video quality is good and overall it is very smooth. One thing I would add into your video is some other audio. This will allow some sort of message to be told or you can add text to the video. With that being said I really like what your topic is how you are promoting another Coug in his dream.

Self Critique: The purpose of the video was to showcase the overall experience of the concert, specifically focusing on Jevy while on tour with Meek Mill (a fellow hip hop artist). By using the black and white, I hope to stick with the old adage of “KISS” (keep it simple, stupid). I think that there was just so much going on in one environment at that time that it would be nearly impossible to have a color video without it being distracting from the actual content of the video and overall story that is being told.

Making the pictures and video wider is an absolute must so that it can fit to YouTube’s universal screen. I am unsure how I will actually go about doing this to the video (photos are easy) but I am sure that it will be technologically possible somehow. My goal is to use just this one song, as it is three minutes long and fits perfectly into the necessary length that we were assigned for this project. With the song in place, I am also able to edit the video so it matches the song to every beat. I feel that with the song and timing in place, the story somewhat tells itself because of the imagery in combination with the lyrics.

In the final project, I plan to use a title slide saying “Jevy” so viewers will know that they are watching, using slow motion techniques in Premiere on specific clips, slicing clips to match the song accurately and smooth out transitions to make them have a smoother flow.
